TL;DR
- No safety trial of the finished formula has been published. Everything honest that can be said is built from the individual ingredients — so that's how we've built it.
- The biggest real-world issue is allergens. The Tri-Factor blend comes from cow colostrum and chicken egg yolk, so the product contains milk and egg protein. It also contains oats, baker's yeast and four mushrooms.
- The most likely side effect is stomach upset — the classic response to zinc without food. The label's "take with food and 8 oz of water" is the fix.
- Four medication conversations are genuinely worth having: blood thinners, diabetes medication, quinolone/tetracycline antibiotics, and immunosuppressants or anti-rejection drugs.

4Life Transfer Factor® Max is a daily immune-support dietary supplement taken as four vegetable capsules with 8 oz of water, ideally with food. It combines colostrum- and egg-derived immune peptides with plant-derived PhytoFactor™, zinc, vitamin C, high-potency vitamin D3, IP-6, oats, baker's yeast and a four-mushroom blend.1 Like the overwhelming majority of dietary supplements sold in the United States, it has no published safety trial, no reported adverse-event profile, and no regulatory requirement to have either.
That is not an accusation. It is the ordinary state of the category, and pretending otherwise is how supplement content goes wrong in both directions — either inventing scary warnings or waving the question away with "it's all natural." Neither is useful when you're the one holding the bottle and a prescription.
So this page does the only defensible thing: it goes ingredient by ingredient, reports what is actually documented about each one, marks clearly where the evidence is theoretical, and says plainly where nobody knows. Then it tells you which four conversations are worth having with your provider before you start.

Start here: what "no reported side effects" actually means
You will find affiliate pages stating that Transfer Factor Max has no known side effects. Read that sentence carefully, because it is doing something slippery. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, supplements are not required to demonstrate safety to the FDA before sale in the way drugs are, and there is no systematic pre-market adverse-event dataset for a product like this. "No known side effects" therefore mostly means nobody has looked.
The one peer-reviewed human trial in this product family — Yu and colleagues, 2024 — was a small feasibility study designed to measure immune biomarkers over 24 hours, not a safety study, and not a study of the finished Max formula.2 We walk through its limits in our breakdown of the clinical studies behind Max.
Absence of evidence about harm is not evidence of absence of harm. It's just absence.
What follows is therefore constructed, not reported. Every claim below is anchored to a named ingredient and a named source, and we've labelled how strong each one is.
The allergen question — the most important safety fact here Documented
If any single thing on this page changes someone's decision, it's this one. 4Life's own ingredient description for the Tri-Factor® blend states that it consists of "immune-educating proteins and peptides from cow colostrum, chicken egg yolks, and nanofiltered cow colostrum."1
Colostrum is a dairy product. Egg yolk is egg. That means Transfer Factor Max contains milk protein and egg protein by design — not as a trace contaminant, but as the core of the formula. Filtration and peptide processing reduce molecular size; they are not an allergen-removal guarantee, and no allergen-challenge study of this product exists.
Four practical consequences:
- Diagnosed milk or egg allergy: do not take this without clearing it with your allergist. This is the clearest contraindication in the entire formula.
- Lactose intolerance is a different thing from milk-protein allergy, and colostrum-derived products are often tolerated — but "often" isn't "always," and the honest answer is to start small or ask.
- Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity: the formula contains oats. Oats are not inherently gluten-containing, but cross-contact during growing and milling is common and 4Life does not publish a gluten-free certification for this product.
- Vegans and vegetarians: this product is not for you. Two of the four transfer factor sources are animal-derived. That is the whole design.

Zinc: the one number you can actually check Documented
4Life states the zinc in Max provides 90% of the daily recommended amount per serving.1 Against the current adult Daily Value of 11 mg, that's approximately 10 mg. The Food and Nutrition Board's Tolerable Upper Intake Level for adults is 40 mg per day from all sources, and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that sustained intakes of around 50 mg or more over weeks can inhibit copper absorption and produce downstream problems.3
One serving of Max is nowhere near either threshold. The realistic risk is stacking — Max plus a multivitamin plus zinc lozenges during a cold plus a separate zinc supplement. Add up every source before assuming you're clear.
Vitamin D: the number 4Life doesn't publish online
The product page calls it "high-potency vitamin D (as cholecalciferol)" and gives no amount.1 That's a real gap for anyone already taking a vitamin D supplement, and for anyone whose provider is tracking calcium. The product is marketed on increasing immune-cell activity. Whether that's desirable in autoimmune disease is a question for your specialist — and no trial has tested it.

Four things that cut the odds of a problem to near zero for most people
1. Take it with food and a full 8 oz of water, as the label says — this handles the single most common complaint about zinc-containing supplements. 2. Don't exceed four capsules a day. 3. Space separate mineral supplements a few hours away from it. 4. Read your bottle's Supplement Facts panel and add up your zinc and vitamin D across everything you take.

What we can't tell you
Honesty means listing the gaps, not just the findings:
- Whether the finished formula causes any side effect at any rate. No trial has measured it.
- How much maitake, cordyceps, shiitake, agaricus, IP-6 or vitamin D is in a serving, from public sources. The bottle's panel is the only place to look.
- Whether the interaction literature on concentrated extracts transfers to a blend. It might be irrelevant at these amounts. It might not. Nobody has tested it.
- Long-term safety of daily use over months or years. Not studied — for this product or for most of the category.
If a page tells you this product is definitively safe with your medication, ask where that came from. As of today, it can't have come from a study.
