The two products are frequently compared because Max is widely described as the successor to Tri-Factor. That framing is roughly right but slightly misleading, and the difference matters if you're deciding whether to spend $49 more a month. The short answer
If you want the one-sentence version: Transfer Factor Max is Tri-Factor Formula plus two entirely new layers — a second kind of transfer factor, and a supporting nutrient stack that Tri-Factor doesn't have at all.
That distinction matters more than the headline "900 mg vs 600 mg" number suggests. A 50% increase in dose is a quantitative change. Adding a plant-based transfer factor alongside the animal-derived ones is a qualitative change — a different ingredient category, not a bigger scoop of the same one. And adding IP-6, four functional mushrooms, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D3 turns a single-purpose supplement into a formulated immune stack.
Layer 1 · The transfer factor itself — 600 mg to 900 mg
Tri-Factor Formula's 600 mg comes from three proprietary concentrates, all animal-derived:
- UltraFactor® — ultra-filtered bioactive immune peptides from cow colostrum.
- NanoFactor® — nano-filtered immune peptides from cow colostrum.
- OvoFactor® — patented immune peptides from chicken egg yolk.
Max keeps all three at their full 600 mg and adds 300 mg of PhytoFactor™, extracted from the seeds of Brassica napus — the first plant-based source of transfer factor 4Life has brought to market. In the company's preclinical work, PhytoFactor showed a more direct effect on invading organisms in addition to acting as an immune messenger, which is a different mode of action from the purely informational role of the animal-derived peptides.

Layer 2 · The supporting stack Tri-Factor doesn't have
This is the difference most comparisons undersell. Tri-Factor Formula is, by design, a focused product: three transfer factor concentrates in a vegetable capsule, and essentially nothing else. That's a feature, not a flaw — it's why it's cheaper and why it's only two capsules.
Max adds the Cordyvant™ Proprietary Polysaccharide Complex (843 mg) and a micronutrient cluster on top of the transfer factor:
- IP-6 (inositol hexaphosphate) at what 4Life describes as a clinical dose — an immune cell activator that supports the maturation of new immune cells.*
- Super-Mushroom Blend — shiitake, Cordyceps sinensis, maitake fruiting body extract, and Agaricus blazei.*
- Beta-glucan sources — oats and baker's yeast.*
- Zinc at 90% of the daily recommended value.*
- Vitamin C and high-potency vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol).*
Here's the practical consequence, and it's the part worth doing arithmetic on: if you currently take Tri-Factor Formula and a separate zinc, vitamin D3, vitamin C, or mushroom supplement, Max may consolidate several bottles into one. That changes the cost comparison considerably — and it's a comparison only you can run, because it depends on what's already on your shelf.

For 25 years, 4Life described transfer factor in three verbs: Recognize · Respond · Remember. Tri-Factor Formula's product page still uses exactly those three. Max is the first product to add a fourth — Renew — based on the Gardner 2026 stem cell mobilization work.

Immune cell coverage — three types vs seven
4Life's own product comparison chart is unusually direct about this, and it's the single clearest dividing line between the two formulas. Tri-Factor Formula is marked for three immune cell types: NK cells, T cells, and B cells. Max is marked for seven: those three plus macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and immune stem cells.*
In plain terms: NK cells detect and destroy harmful invaders; T cells separate friend from foe; B cells assist in antibody production and immune memory. Those are the three Tri-Factor addresses. Max additionally reaches macrophages (which clear dead cells and microbes), dendritic cells (which find threats and teach the rest of the system how to respond), and neutrophils (your first responders, and the most numerous white blood cell in circulation).*
What the evidence actually supports — and what it doesn't
We'd rather you trust this page than be impressed by it, so here's the honest evidence tiering.
The strongest claim is shared by both products. The two-hour immune activation claim rests on Yu et al. 2024, published in Current Issues in Molecular Biology — a peer-reviewed journal, with independent academic authors. That study examined a colostrum- and egg-based low-molecular-weight peptide formula, which is the Tri-Factor component. It applies to Max and Tri-Factor equally. On this dimension, the two products are not different.
The claims unique to Max rest on weaker evidence. Stem cell mobilization comes from the Gardner 2026 technical white paper, and neutrophil activation from Jensen 2026 Clinical Report 058-010. Both are 4Life-affiliated documents, not independent peer-reviewed publications. Several of the immune cell claims on 4Life's own comparison chart are footnoted as preclinical. That doesn't make them wrong — preclinical and company-funded research is how most supplement science begins — but it is a genuinely different tier of evidence, and anyone telling you the Max claims are "clinically proven" in the same sense as the Yu 2024 result is overstating it.

The cost question, done honestly
At retail, Transfer Factor Max is $111 and Tri-Factor Formula is $62. Both are 30-day supplies. That's a $49/month difference — a 79% price increase for a 50% increase in transfer factor. Stated that baldly, Max looks like a bad deal.
Per milligram, the gap is narrower than that framing suggests:

So the real premium on Max is roughly 19% more per milligram of transfer factor at retail — not 79%. And that 19% is not buying transfer factor alone. It's buying the plant-based PhytoFactor, the 843 mg Cordyvant complex, IP-6, four mushrooms, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D3 — none of which exist in Tri-Factor at any dose.
One caveat we won't paper over: the third row above compares Max at MyShop pricing against Tri-Factor at retail, which isn't apples to apples. Tri-Factor carries its own MyShop price on the storefront, so the honest like-for-like number is the retail-to-retail one: about 19%. We'd rather give you the smaller true figure than the flattering false one.
Who should switch — and who genuinely shouldn't
Switch to Max if…

- You prefer 2 capsules to 4. Adherence beats potency. The best formula is the one you actually take every day.

Can you take both at once?
